Dr. Barry has had specialized training as a neuropsychologist. While working at Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital, she provided neuropsychology testing for children suffering from debilitating ailments such as PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified), Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD in children), mental disorders and retardation, signs of brain trauma and injury, epilepsy, stroke, in-utero exposure to drugs and alcohol, physical abuse, and neglect.

Dr. Barry holds a special interest in how the mind and body influence and communicate with each other. Her dissertation research study focused on how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors could both magnify and minimize chronic physical pain. Through mindfulness interventions and techniques (meditation, yoga, etc), Dr. Barry further explores this connection and seeks to positively influence both her own life and her Psychotherapy services. Dr. Barry also understands the complexities of behaviors and how they are a combined result of genetics and environment. She approaches individual Pediatric Therapy, play therapy, and group therapy holistically, by integrating cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution focused therapy, and mindfulness therapies to develop custom treatment plans. These child psychology treatments can often focus on developing empathy, self-efficacy, children anger management, conflict resolution, appropriate social skills development, and grief counseling.

Dr. Barry works closely and collaboratively with children, families and caregivers to identify individual strengths and weaknesses, treat individual needs, and implement successful child behavior strategies both at home and in school. In addition to her role as a Pediatric Therapist for preschoolers, young kids, and adolescents, she also enjoys providing Counseling services for teens, adults, and families. Dr. Barry is committed to getting results by providing families with the tools and support needed to improve emotional health, mental problems, and general well-being.

Dr. Barry offers therapy services for children, teenagers, and adults with emotional issues, developmental disorders, and other children mental health disorders.  Expert Children Testing services —psychological testing, academic testing, and neuropsychological testing—is also offered. Dr. Barry provides School Testing (Grade School Student Testing, High School Testing, College Testing), observation, consultations, and student advocacy services (for WCPSS Raleigh, Cary, etc). She also provides a full spectrum of social skills groups for preschool children through teenagers. Find out more about Wynns Family Psychology therapy services and assessment services.
